Read on to learn about Christine’s career journey to joining 1000MTG. If you are considering joining 1000MTG, learn what made her say yes.

Where did your travel career start and what attracted you to the industry?

With two decades of experience in the travel industry, my journey began after spending two enriching years in the UK. During my working holiday, I had the privilege of exploring numerous countries, igniting my passion for helping others plan their dream vacations. Since then, I’ve been fortunate to visit over 50 countries, each time deepening my expertise and love for leisure travel.

Before joining 1000MTG what was the catalyst for change?

I had worked for 19 years for a large retail company and wanted to focus more on my own client base with a higher level of service. I like the freedom to spend more time on my clients’ itineraries as well as having flexible working hours so I can participate in and attend my children’s school activities.

What was it about 1000MTG that made you say yes?

My husband already worked with 1000MTG and spoke highly of it. We had discussed working together as a team many times over the years.

Tell us a little about your business, what is your niche?

Answering this question is challenging because I hold a deep affection for numerous destinations I’ve had the pleasure of visiting. Fiji holds a particularly special place in my heart, having been married there and returning multiple times with my family. My passion lies in curating unforgettable family holidays, whether it’s exploring Europe, discovering the magic of Disney resorts, or embarking on exciting cruises of all standards.

What advice would you have for anyone considering becoming an independent Travel Advisor/Business Owner??

Having a solid client base has helped, but I have had to focus on promoting myself through my repeat business and the referrals that come through these clients. There is nothing more satisfying than getting a phone call from someone new who has been recommended to you for your expertise.

What’s the best thing about running your own business??

I love having flexibility in my work hours. I am happy to say I’ve been able to attend almost all my two children’s events at school. Having flexible hours means I can get my bookings completed when it’s convenient for my clients and myself. I also love that I have a 30-second commute to my office. Every day is different. Some days I start early and others I’m working late.

With the ability to work from anywhere, what has been your favourite remote working experience?

Having my husband Dave working alongside me has been great. When we are on holiday, if work needs to be done, we take turns. One stays and gets their work done while the other takes the kids to the pool. It works well. I also love not being restricted to 4 weeks of annual leave.

How has technology played a role in transforming the way you manage and organize your travel business??

Technology has never been my strong point, but I’ve learnt a lot in the past year regarding social media and new systems at 1000MTG.

As a part of 1000MTG, how has the community of travel experts supported and enriched your professional journey??

The community of travel experts has been amazing since I started. Any question big or small can be asked and someone always has an answer. There is such a large pool of knowledge and even though we work in many different places, I have felt welcomed and supported.

What challenges have you faced in your travel career, and how has becoming an independent Travel Advisor helped you overcome them??

We all know things don’t always go to plan when traveling, but having a more personal relationship with my clients means I can help them almost instantly via phone or text. I have the tools to resolve anything that happens at the touch of my fingers at any time of day. Something that wasn’t possible when I worked in a retail store.

If there is one place in the world people should visit, where is it? And why should they visit?

Choosing one place is very hard. I would have to say either Japan or Santa Margherita in Italy.?I studied Japanese for many years and always loved everything about the culture, the food, and the people of Japan. The contrast between high-tech, fast-paced cities and the peacefulness and tranquillity of the countryside is amazing. Santa Margherita was one of the stops on my honeymoon and it holds a special place in my heart. It’s a small town on the Ligurian coast and a beautiful place to visit. The coastline is stunning, and the people were so welcoming. A boat trip to the Cinque Terre is a must.
