Meet the 1000MTG travel expert - Rick
From airline enthusiast to trusted corporate travel advisor.
Rick’s love for aviation started young. He remembers watching planes, memorizing aircraft models, and later working for airlines including Virgin Australia, Jetstar, EasyJet, and Ausjet. “I’ve always loved aircraft. Even now, I watch airline reviews and aviation blogs on YouTube,” he says.
But after years in aviation and ticketing roles, Rick discovered corporate travel was where he truly thrived. “I loved building partnerships, getting to know my clients, and running my own show—while still having the backing of a larger company. That balance is what hooked me.”
When COVID hit and his previous company shifted heavily toward online tools, Rick realized it was time for a change. “I didn’t want to be a robot behind a screen. What I value most is client relationships—and that’s exactly what 1000 Mile Travel Group is built on.”
The “Aha” Moment
For Rick, the tipping point came when technology began replacing relationships. “Clients were being pushed onto online booking platforms they didn’t want. I wanted to provide real human support, not just be a chatbot. That’s what led me to 1000MTG.”
Today, Rick works closely with UK General Manager Alex Locke and other advisors to refine processes, improve systems, and build a business model focused on people, not platforms.
A Business Built on Service
Rick specializes in corporate travel, working with law firms, financial clients, and high-net-worth individuals. What makes him unique is his availability and dedication.
“I’m always on for my clients—outside normal hours, on WhatsApp, even on holiday. I probably do more than most, but that’s because I want them to feel fully supported.”
That commitment has earned Rick deep loyalty. One client followed him when he left his former employer, telling him: “We’re with you for the long run.” They’ve remained his core account ever since, even turning away competitors who tried to win their business back.
Proud Moments
For Rick, proud moments come from relationships, not just logistics. Bringing clients with him to 1000MTG—and watching them place their trust in him—has been his biggest win.
“I’ve had clients tell me they’ll stick with me through thick and thin. That loyalty makes all the hard work worth it.”

Working From Anywhere
Rick embraces the independence of his role, working from destinations across Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, Greece, Turkey, Spain, and Australia.
One standout memory? Logging on mid-flight. “I was flying to Australia via Hong Kong working on my laptop, meanwhile, Dave (another 1000MTG travel advisor from the UK) was working from Bali at the same time. I messaged him when I was flying over Bali to tell him I was waving at him from the sky —it felt surreal that we were both traveling and working seamlessly from anywhere in the world.”
The Future of Independent Advisors
Rick believes the future belongs to advisors who focus on relationships over technology. “My clients are too busy to spend time on booking platforms—they want me to take care of everything. As long as we focus on those relationships, we’ll stay relevant, no matter how much tech evolves.”
Still, he acknowledges travel is unpredictable. “The key is being financially prepared for tough times, while building a strong portfolio of clients who value service over speed.”
The Power of Community
One of Rick’s most pleasant surprises has been the close-knit UK network within 1000MTG. “We’ve all come from similar backgrounds, and we support each other through the tough times. That community feel is unique—and it’s why new advisors are joining us. They want to be part of something bigger than themselves.”
A Fun Extra
If Rick could teleport anywhere right now?
“Back to Greece. I love the people, the food, the islands—everything. I’ve barely scratched the surface, and there are so many more places I want to see.”
